Spurs earned a much deserved 3 points against pool today. It was a fine display by the team. All the spurs players seemed to be working hard on the pitch under the heat, whereas pool looked sluggish.
Keane could have scored a hatrick inside the first half.Hit a diving header from 6 yards out straight at Reina, then later missed a one on one chance wch he shld hav really driven low into the corner-instead he attempted to chip it over the keeper nd Reina gratefully pawed it away. Then he hit a volley high and into the crowd.A pre-Liverpool Keane would have converted atleast 2 out of those 3 chances.
Lennon was double teamed by on the right with Babel tracking back.Huddlestone was excellent-passed well n combined well wid Palacios to contain the pool midfield.Palacios dominated the midfield and made sure we’re on top.The back four was amazing.
Now,onto the goals.
1)Bennoit Assou Ekkoto is the last person we would have imagined of scoring a screamer like the one he did.He coolly killed the ball with his right foot, and then smashed one into the top corner with his left.Amazing shot and there was nothing the keeper could do.And that was his first goal for spurs. It was worth waiting, wasnt it?
2)A rare mistake by Huddlestone allowed Johnson to maraud into the box,and some madness by Gomes(who mebbe was bored due to lack of inactivity) saw him get Johnson’s feet instead of the ball.Gerrard fires home the penalty.
3)Spurs equalise immediately with a Bassong header onto Modric’s freekick.Great stuff from the debutant Bassong-it was a solid first game and we hope to see more of the same from him.His first goal in the premier league.Newcastles fans would have died to see him score for them last season.
A nervous ending followed, and somehow we managed to keep our lead. Many pool fans might be pointing to the controversial penalty decision turned down at the end,but hey! their team didnt deserve to even draw the game.
3 points in pocket and looking forward to Hull away on wednesday.Bad news is that King won’t be able to play that game:(

Spurs beat Everton to sign the sheffield united defensive duo.Tottenham have paid an undisclosed fee - believed to be close to £8million - for Naughton, 20, and Walker, 19, who both broke into the first-team at Bramall Lane last season after working their way through the club’s academy.
Naughton made his debut in August and went on to make 50 appearances for the club.He was a stand-out player for the blades last season, and was rewarded with a place in the PFA Championship Team of the season. He’s naturally a right-back,but can also play in the midfield.Towards the end of the season he played as a left-back to accomodate Walker.
19 year old Walker broke into the first team at the ending stage of the season. He’s made only 7 appearances, but 3 of them were in the important play-off stage. It is confirmed that he’ll be returning to Sheffield United on loan as part of the deal.
Blades manager Kevin Blackwell, who will also be able to take Tottenham players on loan as part of the deal, said: “Having Walker available is a very important part of our strategy and it’s exciting to have the chance to talk with Tottenham and judge whether any other of their players might fit into our squad.
“If we think that someone could help us we could take them on a short-term loan throughout August and, if required, extend it to a season-long arrangement after that.”
He added: “Our academy is proving its worth in producing assets for Sheffield United and, in these current uncertain financial times, we are pursuing a policy we believe will enable me to try and build a competitive team whilst developing the club’s long-term future.”These youngsters look promising and hopefully they’ll prove Harry right.
What does this signing mean to the existing right-backs at Spurs?Currently Vedran Corluka is the first choice right-back.I think Harry Redknapp is looking to Naughton as a player with talent who can break into the first team later. So Naughton will be the backup guy. This means Spurs fans can wave good-bye to Alan Hutton and Pascal Chimbonda.
